Engineering Day FTSL 2025: Inovasi Rekayasa Mahasiswa TPB di ITB

On June 14, 2025, the Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty (FTSL) at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) organized its annual Engineering Day at the Hydrology and Hydraulics Laboratory on the Jatinangor campus. This event marked the culmination of the Introduction to Engineering and Design (PRD) course for students in the Joint Preparation Stage (TPB). The primary objective was to introduce students to engineering and design concepts through problem identification and the development of infrastructure-based solutions.

Purpose of Engineering Day

Engineering Day provided a platform for TPB students to apply the fundamental principles of engineering and design acquired during the semester to practical projects. The event coordinator, Regia, stated that the main goal was to offer students an initial understanding of the engineering and design fields through explanations and examples relevant to common challenges encountered in daily life.

Focus Topics for 2025

This year’s activities concentrated on two specific topics: Simple Bridges and Clean Water Pumping Systems. This division allowed students to delve into case studies formulated by faculty and assistants, thereby facilitating a foundational understanding of engineering and design. Unlike previous iterations of the event, which focused on a single topic, participants developed detailed mechanisms for both topics this year.

Practical Applications and Challenges

During Engineering Day, each group conducted functional tests of their designs. For the bridge topic, students subjected their structures to weight tests to ascertain the maximum load capacity. In the clean water system segment, innovative solutions featured the use of windmills for elevating water and water treatment systems aimed at reducing turbidity levels. Students faced the challenge of identifying effective and efficient treatment options while adhering to a budget constraint of approximately IDR 200,000 per group for the development of creative tools.

Commitment to Future Engineering Challenges

Engineering Day FTSL ITB 2025 highlights the commitment of FTSL ITB to cultivate innovative and adaptable engineers capable of addressing future challenges in the engineering sector.
