UNAIR Hosts East Java State University Rectors Meeting to Enhance Collaboration and Societal Impact

On May 27, 2025, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) facilitated a working meeting for the rectors of state universities in East Java, with the goal of enhancing collaboration and societal impact. The meeting was held at the Amerta Hall located on the 4th floor of UNAIR’s MERR-C campus.

Participation of Notable Representatives

Notable representatives from various public universities in the region participated in the event. Attendees included representatives from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jawa Timur (UPN), Universitas Trunojoyo Madura (UTM), Universitas Jember (UNEJ), as well as Islamic universities such as UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya and UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang.

Opening Remarks by UNAIR Rector

During the opening remarks, UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih highlighted the role of universities as agents of public benefit, emphasizing the importance of making a significant impact rather than solely focusing on institutional rankings. He stated that the ultimate objective should be to provide utility, productivity, and societal impact.

Enhancing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education

To support this vision, Prof. Nasih urged the attending leaders to enhance the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which encompasses education, research, and community service. He encouraged them to improve the quality of their initiatives in these domains to benefit society further.

Collaboration in Higher Education

Prof. Dr. Nurhasan MKes, Chair of the East Java State University Rector Consortium, underscored the importance of collaboration in advancing higher education. He described the meeting as a show of solidarity and a collective response to the aspirations expressed by the Ministry of Education.

Advocating for a Change in Mindset

Furthermore, Prof. Nurhasan emphasized the need for a change in mindset among academic institutions, advocating for a more agile approach in responding to both national and global changes. He reiterated that collaborative efforts would be essential for raising the profile of public universities in East Java on both national and international stages.

This assembly of academic leaders reflects the commitment of universities in East Java to collaboratively promote quality education and address the needs of society.
