South Asian University (SAU) Launches New Academic Programs and Opens Admissions for 2026-27

South Asian University (SAU) has announced the opening of admissions for the 2026-27 academic session. The announcement was made at a press conference by Prof. K. K. Aggarwal, the university president, along with other officials, including vice presidents and deans.
University Commitment to Education
Prof. Aggarwal noted SAU’s commitment to providing quality education and expanding academic opportunities across the South Asian region. The university, founded by the governments of SAARC nations, aims to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration among eight member countries.
Campus and Infrastructure
Located on a 100-acre campus in Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, the university’s facilities have been developed by the Ministry of External Affairs, underscoring an emphasis on regional educational cooperation. SAU transitioned to this new facility in 2023, marking a significant development in its infrastructure.
Enhancements in Academics
The ongoing academic year, 2025-26, has seen noteworthy enhancements at SAU, including the addition of advanced research laboratories, modern lecture halls, and specialized environments such as a greenhouse designed for environmental studies. These improvements aim to foster hands-on learning and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration among students.
Recreational Amenities
SAU has also upgraded its recreational amenities, which now include a gymnasium, a yoga center, and a swimming pool, contributing to a supportive campus atmosphere for student wellness.
Admissions for 2026-27
For the 2026-27 academic session, SAU has made available 1,610 seats for new admissions, which encompasses 50 scholarship positions for PhD programs, as well as 780 seats each for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
New Academic Offerings
In terms of new academic offerings, the university is introducing undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including BA LL.B (Hons), BBA LL.B (Hons), BA (Honours) in Media, Arts and Design, MA in Journalism and Digital Media, and MS in Business Analytics. Additionally, new PhD programs have been launched in Management, Climate Change, English, and Chemistry, with a specialization in Quantum Computing added to the B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering curriculum.
Focus on Employability
Prof. Pankaj Jain, Vice President of Academics, highlighted SAU’s dedication to academic excellence and the development of skills essential for student success in a competitive marketplace.
Career Development Initiatives
The university has established the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Training & Placements to improve students’ employability and career readiness. Admissions for the 2026-27 academic year will take into account scores from various national-level examinations, including CUET, JEE (Main), CAT, and CLAT, in addition to an entrance test conducted by the university itself.
Application Process
The application period for the 2026-27 academic session is currently open, with the final date for submission set for April 10, 2026. Entrance examinations are scheduled for April 25 and 26, 2026.
