PolyU New Year’s Day Flag-Raising Ceremony 2026 – Highlights and Celebrations

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) conducted a flag-raising ceremony on January 1, 2026, to mark the beginning of the New Year. The event featured significant attendees including PolyU Council Chairman Dr. Lam Tai-fai, President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, University Court Chairman Dr. Katherine Ngan Ng Yu-ying, Treasurer Mr. Arthur Lee Kin, Honorary Court Chairman Dr. Roy Chung Chi-ping, and President Emeritus Prof. the Honourable Poon Chung-kwong.
Approximately 400 participants, including staff, students, Council and Court members, Outstanding Alumni, members of the PolyU Foundation, and other distinguished guests, were present at the ceremony. The objective of the event was to express hopes for prosperity and stability for both Hong Kong and the nation. The ceremony included performances by the PolyU Student Flag-Raising Team and the Guizhou University Flag Guards, who attended specifically for the occasion.

In his address, Dr. Lam remarked on Hong Kong’s unique advantages and its steady progression over the past year, supported by the mainland and global links. He highlighted PolyU’s focus on advancing research and talent development, as well as its role in promoting cultural heritage and international exchanges. He referenced initiatives such as the PolyU Chinese Culture Festival, which aims to globally showcase Chinese culture and enhance cultural appreciation.
President Teng’s Insights
President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng spoke to PolyU’s improved standing in global university rankings, attributing this rise to the institution’s academic and research accomplishments. He discussed the university’s initiatives to strengthen its innovation network in mainland China, which includes the establishment of 12 Translational Research Institutes and various measures to encourage entrepreneurship and technological progress.
