MFU Research Expo 2025: Showcasing Research Excellence and Innovation for Global Impact

Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) hosted the MFU Research Expo 2025 on December 23-24, 2025, at the Kham Mok Luang Room in M-Square. The event aimed to highlight the institution’s commitment to research excellence and innovation within the region, focusing on the theme “Well-being and Sustainable Future.” The objective of the expo was to improve quality of life through research initiatives.

Platform for Research Presentation

The expo provided a platform for MFU researchers to present their findings from the previous year and offered mentorship opportunities for emerging researchers from established scholars. It also facilitated interdisciplinary collaboration among various schools within the university.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony featured remarks from Asst. Prof. Dr. Matchima Naradisorn, President of MFU, and a report by Prof. Dr. Sujitra Wongkasemjit, Vice President. The event was attended by representatives from organizations such as Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), the Health Systems Research Institute, and the ASEAN Studies Center at Chiang Mai University, along with researchers, students, and staff from MFU.

Research Exhibitions

Exhibitions at the expo showcased research outputs from MFU’s 14 schools, underscoring the university’s strengths in innovation and its multidisciplinary approach to addressing contemporary global challenges. Key focus areas included environmental sustainability, health and natural products, socio-economic development, digital technology for social advancement, and initiatives aligned with the university’s strategic framework.

Centres of Excellence

Research initiatives were highlighted by MFU’s six Centres of Excellence:

  • The Centre of Excellence in Fungal Research showcased advancements in biomaterials derived from local mushroom fibers and pigments.
  • The Centre of Excellence in Natural Products Innovation emphasized the use of agricultural by-products from corn in cosmetics.
  • The Medicinal Plant Innovation Centre presented findings on the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of various Thai medicinal herbs.
  • The Institute for Mekong Basin Civilisation, Art, and Culture introduced projects supporting sustainable tourism and cultural identity in the Mekong subregion.
  • The Tea and Coffee Institute focused on innovations in product development and community knowledge transfer.
  • The SMEs Cosmetic Center targeted the enhancement of Thai cosmetic SMEs and product standards.

Knowledge Exchange Events

Additional knowledge exchange events included a keynote address on research directions from TSRI and discussions addressing research trends in the Greater Mekong Subregion. Awards for outstanding research exhibitions were presented, acknowledging academic contributions in various fields.

Importance of the Expo

In her opening remarks, Asst. Prof. Dr. Naradisorn highlighted the importance of the expo for promoting a robust research culture at MFU and enhancing the visibility and practical applications of research findings. She noted the university’s strategic positioning as a hub that connects neighboring countries, emphasizing the potential for collaboration across sectors such as education, health research, and social sciences.
