UTHM Launches UNESCO Chair on TVET Educators: A Significant Milestone in Technical Education

Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) has officially inaugurated the UNESCO Chair on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Educators on December 16, 2025, at Dewan Sultan Ibrahim. This establishment signifies UTHM’s recognition in the field of technical education and underscores Malaysia’s commitment to improving quality education and fostering the sustainable development of human capital.

CONNECTU: Culture Connect Initiative

The event was part of the CONNECTU: Culture Connect initiative, organized by UTHM’s International Office, which aims to enhance unity and cultural diversity while promoting interaction among local and international students.

UNESCO Chair on TVET Educators

During the launch, Prof. Dr. Nik Hisyamudin bin Muhd Nor, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Strategic & Quality, noted that UTHM will hold the UNESCO Chair on TVET Educators for a four-year term, from 2025 to 2029. This designation positions UTHM as the sixth institution in Malaysia to receive such recognition.

Commitment to Excellence

Prof. Nik emphasized that the award reflects UTHM’s growing portfolio of associations with UNESCO, demonstrating the university’s ongoing commitment to excellence and international credibility. In addition to the UNESCO Chair, UTHM also hosts the UNESCO–UNEVOC Centre and is recognized as a UNESCO Ecohydrology Demonstration Site, highlighting its contributions to education, skills development, and environmental preservation.

Collaboration and Partnership

Earlier that day, a luncheon discussion was held at MyRIVET UTHM, featuring representatives from the UNESCO Chair on TVET Educators at UTHM and the UNESCO Chair at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU). This meeting focused on potential collaborative efforts, including joint research projects and capacity-building initiatives.

Letter of Intent Signing Ceremony

The event culminated in a Letter of Intent signing ceremony between the two universities, formalizing a strategic partnership aimed at furthering shared goals in TVET education across the Asia-Pacific region. The proceedings were attended by distinguished guests and ambassadors, emphasizing UTHM’s role as a credible global partner for UNESCO and Malaysia’s leadership in promoting quality education and sustainable development in TVET through international collaboration.
