UGM Faculty of Biology Collaborates with 77 High Schools to Enhance Access to Higher Education in Indonesia

The Faculty of Biology at Universitas Gadjah Mada has partnered with 77 high schools, vocational schools, and Islamic high schools across 19 provinces in Indonesia. This initiative is designed to enhance access to higher education, providing additional opportunities for research and community service. The official signing ceremony for this collaboration took place on October 23, 2025, at the Biology UGM auditorium.
Participating Schools and Enrollment Pathways
Participating schools include MAN Insan Cendekia Aceh Timur, SMA Nurul Fikri Serang, and SMA IT Al-Kahfi Bogor, among others. Professor Budi Setiadi Daryono, Dean of Biology UGM, stated that the faculty offers diverse pathways for aspiring students to enroll, which include both achievement-based and written selection criteria.
Academic Options and Collaboration Initiatives
The partnership is intended to provide various academic options such as the International Undergraduate Program, double degrees, and fast-track programs for students. Dean Daryono emphasized the significance of implementing actionable steps, including the organization of joint training and outreach initiatives as part of the collaboration.
Reception and Future Opportunities
The cooperation agreement has been well received by school representatives, with educators expressing optimism regarding UGM’s continued outreach efforts to help students prepare for the International Undergraduate Program.
Internship Opportunities and International Collaboration
Additionally, Arif Misbahul from the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) Taiwan Center indicated that the collaboration will also create internship opportunities for UGM students in Taiwan’s industries. The partnership structure includes three years in the International Undergraduate Program at UGM, followed by one year in Taiwan, potentially allowing students to earn two degrees within that timeframe.
