XMUM’s Sustainable Technology Research Featured at NICE 2025 Expo

Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) participated in the National Innovation and Commercialisation Expo (NICE 2025), held from October 6 to 9, 2025. The university represented the only private institution invited to showcase its work at this event through its Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Technologies for Agricultural Advancement and a Zero-Waste Economy (STARGAZE).

NICE 2025 Expo Overview

The NICE 2025 expo, organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), took place at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur and was inaugurated by YAB Dato’ Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia. This event is noted as the largest exhibition of research and innovation organized by MOSTI, featuring contributions from 17 government agencies, several leading universities, and prominent national research institutions.

STARGAZE Booth Highlights

The STARGAZE booth at the expo presented XMUM’s research advancements in sustainable biotechnology, including developments in bio-based chemical production, circular agro-waste valorisation, bioenergy innovation, and artificial intelligence-enabled bioprocess systems. The booth garnered attention from various figures, including YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, highlighting its relevance among over 150 exhibitors.

Visitor Engagement

Throughout the four-day event, the booth drew a wide range of visitors, including the Secretary-General of MOSTI, venture capitalists, representatives from foreign state-owned media, and professionals from banking and research institutions across Malaysia.

Comments from Leadership

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Jian Ping, Director of STARGAZE, commented on the recognition of XMUM’s efforts in advancing sustainable technologies. He noted that being the only private university represented at this significant research showcase underscores XMUM’s growing visibility within Malaysia’s research and innovation landscape.
