Curtin Malaysia Chemical Engineering Students Participate in International ENTECH Summer Programme in Thailand

Five undergraduate chemical engineering students from Curtin University Malaysia participated in the Chemical Engineering ENTECH Summer Programme at Silpakorn University in Thailand. The participating students were Austin Jason Pui, Ashley Bernadette Simon Augustine August, Resty Anak James, Irfa Safrina Rahmat, and Nur Amirah Haziqah Ismail.

Overview of the ENTECH Summer Programme

The four-day programme included students from Curtin Malaysia, Kumamoto University in Japan, and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), with additional support from Nagoya University in Japan and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. The event aimed to offer academic immersion, cultural experiences, and opportunities for international networking.

Achievements and Recognition

Resty Anak James stated that the programme contributed to their understanding of sustainability and global collaboration. Together with Irfa Safrina Rahmat and Ashley Bernadette Simon Augustine August, he received the Best Presentation Award for their innovative engineering solution designed to enhance coconut sugar production using sustainable methods.

Keynote Address and Workshops

The programme featured a keynote address from Assistant Professor Dr. Choowong Chaisuk, the Deputy Dean of Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Technology. Participants engaged in hands-on workshops on sustainability, field visits, and presentations by leading academics, including Professor Armando T. Quitain from Kumamoto University and Associate Professor Dr. Worapon Kiatkittipong from Silpakorn University.

Cultural Experiences

Cultural activities were also an integral part of the experience, allowing participants to craft traditional Thai desserts, practice tie-dye techniques, explore the Amphawa Floating Market, and visit the Phra Pathommachedi stupa, recognized as the world’s second-tallest stupa.

Support and Significance

Associate Professor Bridgid Chin from Curtin Malaysia’s Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering accompanied the students and emphasized the significance of international collaborations in enhancing students’ global exposure and readiness for industry challenges. She acknowledged the support of Silpakorn University and the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development for providing scholarships and funding.
