Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2025 Seminar: Building Bridges Between Innovators, Industry, and Institutions

The Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2025 Seminar organized by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) in partnership with Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad recently took place, emphasizing the theme “Building Bridges Between Innovators, Industry, and Institutions.” This seminar was part of the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2025, which focuses on technology and innovation and was held at the Lecture Theatre 2 of the university’s Library Complex.
Guest of Honour and Opening Remarks
Yang Mulia Dr. Mohamad Saiful bin Haji Omar, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (External and Industry Relations), served as the Guest of Honour at the event. The program commenced with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by opening remarks from Yang Mulia Dr. Ismawi bin Hj Md Yusof, Head of the Seminar Committee for CIPTA 2025.
Winning Vibes Session
A session titled “Spreading the Winning Vibes,” moderated by Yang Mulia Dr. Md Motiar Rahman, Senior Assistant Professor from UTB’s Faculty of Engineering, highlighted presentations from leading winners of the CIPTA 2025 competition. Significant contributors included:
- Yang Mulia Fatin Nuratikah binti Hj Asbi from UTB, who discussed the creation of a new product, process, or technology.
- Yang Mulia Dr. Law Kah Haw from UTB, focusing on modifications to existing products, processes, or technology.
- Young Inventor award recipient Yang Mulia Lee Jing Jing from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan.
- Yang Mulia Callum Singh Sekhon from Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait, representing the Smart Junior category.
These presentations aimed to demonstrate innovative solutions and inspire the attendees. Following this segment, a question-and-answer session allowed participants to engage with presenters and explore innovation processes alongside the transformation of ideas into practical applications.
Paving the Way Forward
Additionally, a forum entitled “Pave Way Forward with Stakeholders” was organized, with moderation by Yang Mulia Pg Dr. Haji Azhan bin Pg Haji Ahmad, Deputy Head of the CIPTA 2025 Technical Committee. Discussions included feasibility studies presented by Yang Mulia Dr. Sharina Yunus from UTB’s Enterprise Office, strategic partnerships addressed by Yang Mulia Malai Ayla Surya Malai Haji Abdullah from Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd, and business process insights offered by Yang Mulia Reuben Chin from the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB).
The seminar concluded with a success story shared by Yang Mulia Awang Shafique Hussain, Chief Executive Officer of InnovAero, which emphasized the intersection of innovation and entrepreneurship. The event concluded with a final question-and-answer session, reinforcing the significance of integrating innovation into commercial and institutional frameworks.
