Nagoya University Strengthens Medical Partnership with Gdańsk University: Celebrating 30 Years in Education and Research

On June 26, 2025, Nagoya University welcomed a delegation from the Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland, to mark the 30th anniversary of their educational and research partnership. The delegation, led by Vice Rector for Clinical Affairs Michał Hoffmann, engaged in discussions with Nagoya University President Naoshi Sugiyama at the Toyoda Auditorium. Accompanying Hoffmann were other vice rectors and senior faculty members from the Medical University of Gdańsk.
Focus of Discussions
The discussions focused on enhancing the existing collaboration and uncovering new academic exchange opportunities. Members of the delegation also met with former exchange participants and toured Nagoya University Hospital. This visit occurred during the delegation’s participation in official ceremonies for the World Expo 2025 in Osaka.
History of the Partnership
The partnership between Nagoya University’s Graduate School of Medicine and the Medical University of Gdańsk was established in 1995 through an academic exchange agreement initiated by former professor Takashi Wakabayashi. This collaboration has facilitated regular student exchanges, with Nagoya University sending up to two medical students each year to Gdańsk for clinical training.
