Xi’an Jiaotong University Enhances Its Role as the Chinese Presidential Office of SCO University

On May 18, Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) convened a meeting to discuss its role as part of the Chinese Presidential Office of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) University. The meeting, chaired by Shan Zhiwei, vice-president of XJTU and a member of the university’s CPC Standing Committee, focused on the university’s involvement in the recent 9th meeting of Ministers of Education from SCO Member States and outlined preparations for the upcoming 2025 Annual Conference of SCO University.

Strategies for Enhanced Cooperation

Discussion points included strategies to enhance cooperation in education, technology, and talent development under the SCO framework. The 9th meeting of SCO Ministers of Education, which took place on May 13 in Urumqi, underscored XJTU’s role in developing essential documents for SCO University, including the Digital Education Development Plan and plans for the 15th Education Week, themed “Education without Borders.”

Highlights of the Meeting

Furthermore, the formation of the SCO Digital Education Alliance and the inauguration of the China-SCO Doctoral Talent Cultivation and Innovation Center were significant highlights of this meeting. XJTU’s responsibilities in organizing the 2025 Annual Conference were also discussed, with an emphasis on building consensus regarding future development directions and enhancing collaboration among member institutions.

Refining Foreign Affairs and Global Strategy

During the meeting, Shan Zhiwei emphasized the need to refine the university’s foreign affairs system and strengthen its global development strategy. He indicated the importance of a coordinated approach to advancing both SCO University and the Silk-Road University Alliance, including plans for the expedited development of the Silk Road International College and comprehensive English-language course offerings.

Engaging Member Institutions

This initiative is designed to engage various schools and utilize research think tanks to enhance international exchanges and cooperation among member institutions.
