HUST Delegation Strengthens Education and Technology Partnerships with Asian Universities

A delegation from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), led by Vice President Zhang Yonghui, visited several universities in Asia from May 5 to 9, 2025. The institutions included the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the University of Malaya, Mahidol University, and Chulalongkorn University. The primary objective of this visit was to enhance educational and technological collaboration, with a focus on talent development in medicine and interdisciplinary medical engineering, as well as promoting partnerships in the area of “healthy aging.”

Visit to the National University of Singapore

During the meetings at NUS, Zhang Yonghui engaged with Vice President Teo Yik Ying and Associate Provost Kah Hin Chai. Discussions included initiatives aimed at strengthening student exchanges, joint training programs, and collaborations between industry, academia, and research. Additionally, the two institutions renewed their 3+1+1 joint training agreement in engineering management.

Engagement at Nanyang Technological University

Zhang Yonghui participated in the 6th HUST-NUS Joint Forum for Young Scholars in Computer Science, which was attended by over 60 young scholars and notable talents from both universities.

At Nanyang Technological University, meetings included discussions with Vice President Wai Fong Boh and other officials. Topics addressed the significance of collaboration in talent cultivation, faculty and student exchanges, and cooperative research initiatives. A joint training agreement focusing on optoelectronics was signed, alongside agreements regarding international competency training programs.

Further discussions at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information of NTU involved Associate Provost May Lwin and Chair Qiu Linchuan.

Collaboration with the University of Malaya

Meetings with the University of Malaya included discussions with Vice Chancellor Hasniza Zaman Huri and Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor Yvonne Lim Ai Lian. They reached agreements to establish joint research platforms and create a collaborative seed fund for scientific research and also renewed an agreement for a joint laboratory centered on naval architecture and marine engineering.

Interactions at Chulalongkorn University

At Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, Zhang met with various academic leaders, including Assistant to the President Tewarit Sarachana, and representatives from the faculties of Nursing, Science, Medicine, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Conversations focused on fostering joint research platforms and enhancing academic exchanges.

Meeting at Mahidol University

The visit to Mahidol University concluded with a strategic cooperation meeting that included Wanpimon Senapadpakorn, Director of International Relations, and other faculty leaders. This meeting emphasized the expansion of student exchange programs and the establishment of joint research seed funds.

Strengthening International Ties

Zhang Yonghui also met with Zhao Changtao, the Education Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, reinforcing Huazhong University’s international educational ties.

The collaborative efforts between HUST and its Asian partners illustrate a commitment to advancing academic excellence and facilitating impactful research in diverse fields.
