All Indonesian Environmental Study Programs Unite at IPB University to Form Independent Accreditation Agency

IPB University recently hosted a workshop aimed at preparing for the establishment of an independent accreditation agency (LAM) for Environmental Design and Planning (Depilar). The event brought together representatives from environmental study programs across Indonesia and took place at the Baranangsiang Campus of IPB University on February 15.

Significance of LAM

The workshop featured Professor Widiatmaka, chair of the Doctoral Program in Natural Resources and Environmental Management Science, who underscored the significance of LAM as an essential element of external quality assurance. This initiative responds to the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Number 53/2023, which addresses quality assurance in higher education.

Purpose of LAM Depilar

According to Professor Widiatmaka, LAM Depilar is intended to provide accreditation for programs related to design, planning, the environment, architecture, and allied disciplines. The IPB University program, recognized as one of the oldest environmental study programs in Indonesia, aspires to significantly contribute to the development of LAM.

Collaboration and Future Plans

Furthermore, Professor Widiatmaka indicated the intention for the PSL Doctoral Program to lead collaborative efforts among environmental study programs in forming LAM. Plans are also underway to seek international accreditation for the PSL Doctoral Program by 2025, aligning with broader efforts to improve educational quality and university governance.

Workshop Follow-Up

Professor Lina Karlinasari, Secretary of the PSL Doctoral Program, noted that this workshop was a follow-up to earlier meetings aimed at consolidating efforts for forming and obtaining official recognition for LAM. The initiative is backed by eight professional organizations and six associations from relevant scientific domains, which are currently working toward securing official recognition from the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.

Establishment Goals for LAM Depilar

The objective is for LAM Depilar to be established by 2025, with the NREMS Study Program, Regional Planning Science Study Program, and Landscape Architecture Study Program among those proposed for accreditation.

Goals of the Workshop

Dr. Yulianto Purwono Prihatmaji, chair of the LAM Depilar Establishment Team, mentioned that the workshop’s goals included defining technical procedures to streamline institutional processes and preparing the LAM information system. It also served as a platform for developing accreditation instruments. The establishment of LAM Depilar has generated considerable interest among various stakeholders in the field.
