UNAIR FEB Hosts 8th ICEB International Conference on Sustainability: Emphasizing Sustainable Development
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Universitas Airlangga recently hosted the 8th International Conference for Economics & Business and International Community Service (ICEB), which concentrated on sustainability within social and economic communities. The conference was conducted on October 30-31, 2024, in a hybrid format, enabling both online participation via Zoom and in-person attendance at the KRT Fadjar Notonegoro Hall, located on Universitas Airlangga’s Dharmawangsa-B Campus. The event attracted participation from academics and industry professionals from various countries.
The organization of this year’s conference involved collaboration with eight other Indonesian universities. The Dean of FEB, Prof. Dr. Dian Agustia, SE, MSi, Ak, outlined the various activities that took place, which included a PhD colloquium, presentations of research and report papers, as well as initiatives focused on community development and international community service.
Prof. Agustia also highlighted the conference’s connection with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in East Java. Participating researchers provided support to SME owners, helping them implement research findings to improve their business practices. The Dean emphasized the role of universities in actively contributing to society through diverse initiatives.
Keynote Address on Sustainable Economic Growth
On the first day of the conference, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE, MT, Ak, CA, the Rector of Universitas Airlangga, delivered a keynote address that addressed the significance of education and leadership in achieving sustainable economic growth. In his speech, he noted that sustainability has shifted from being an ethical choice to a necessity for businesses today. Prof. Nasih encouraged leaders across both economic and educational domains to adopt sustainable practices for the long-term success of the global economy.
In his remarks, Prof. Nasih reaffirmed Universitas Airlangga’s dedication to the principles of sustainable economics through its focus on education, research, and collaboration with industry stakeholders. He emphasized the importance of global partnerships in pursuing a sustainable future, highlighting the university’s commitment to advancing green technology and integrating sustainable business practices that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
