Empowering Students to Explore New Passions Beyond the Classroom at UOW Malaysia
In September 2024, students from Shoyo High School and Foon Yew High School participated in events focused on mobility and creativity in education.
Taste of Malaysia Program
Eight students from Shoyo High School in Japan engaged in a mobility program titled “Taste of Malaysia.” Under the direction of Chef Eddie, they participated in a hands-on cooking session where they prepared traditional Malaysian snacks, such as cucur udang (prawn fritters) and pisang goreng (banana fritters). This workshop enhanced their culinary skills and provided insights into Malaysia’s diverse food culture. While preparing the snacks, students also shared their own culinary traditions, fostering cross-cultural friendships. The program concluded with a tasting session, where students expressed interest in recreating the dishes at home.
Foon Yew High School Visit
In a separate initiative, 60 students from Foon Yew High School in Johor Bahru toured the UOW Malaysia campus, an event organized by Link Ink Edu. This visit combined exploration and creativity, introducing students to various academic programs and campus life. A notable aspect of the day was an interactive cupcake-making workshop led by Chef Alex, during which students learned essential baking and decorating techniques. This activity allowed students to express their creativity while promoting teamwork.
Conclusion
Both events highlight the importance of educational experiences that encourage exploration and creativity. The program with Shoyo High School facilitated cultural understanding, while the visit from Foon Yew High School promoted collaboration and enthusiasm for culinary arts among students.
