Dhaka University Law Department and UNICEF Organise Seminar on Children Act 2013

The Department of Law at the University of Dhaka, in collaboration with UNICEF Bangladesh under the SARC Project, organised a seminar on the Children Act 2013 to promote awareness and understanding of child protection laws among law students. The seminar was held on 23 July 2026 at the University of Dhaka Law Department.
University of Dhaka Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and distributed certificates among participating students. Earlier, the programme was inaugurated by Law Department Chairman Prof. Dr. Md. Towhidul Islam.
The event featured discussions by academics, legal professionals, and UNICEF representatives, including Law Faculty Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ikramul Haque, UNICEF Bangladesh Child Protection Specialist Shabnaz Zahrin, Prof. Dr. Sumaiya Khair, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and SARC Project Director S M Arshadul Alam, and UNICEF Child Protection Officer Natasha Ryan.
Prof. Obaidul Islam thanked UNICEF for partnering with the Law Department to integrate child rights education into the academic curriculum. He highlighted plans for continued collaboration through initiatives such as moot court competitions, court visits, and law clinic programmes.
He emphasized that such activities would provide students with deeper knowledge of child protection laws and strengthen their practical understanding of legal frameworks related to children’s rights.
