UET Lahore Joins National Semiconductor Education & Research Clusters (SERC) Initiative
The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore has joined the Semiconductor Education & Research Clusters (SERC), a flagship initiative launched by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) under the National Semiconductor Human Resource Development Program. The initiative aims to build a highly skilled workforce capable of supporting Pakistan’s growing semiconductor and chip design industry.
SERC will establish three regional academic hubs at UET Lahore, the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad, and NED University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi. Each university will train 50 undergraduate and 40 graduate students annually in chip design through integrated academic programmes. To encourage participation, the initiative will fully cover tuition fees for all selected students, while graduate students will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 50,000 to support their education and research.
The programme was formally launched during a contract signing ceremony held on 21 July 2026, attended by representatives from PSEB and the partner universities. The event was chaired by Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, alongside senior officials from the Ministry of IT & Telecommunication, PSEB Chairman, Dr. Naveed Ramzan, Managing Director of ESUPAK, and Dr. Muhammad Tahir, UET Lahore’s SERC focal person. The initiative represents a major step towards strengthening Pakistan’s semiconductor ecosystem through advanced education, research, and industry-focused talent development.
