French Ambassador Visits Nagoya University for Launch of International Glycoscience Laboratory

Béatrice Le Fraper du Hellen visited Nagoya University to mark the launch of the International Research Laboratory (IRL) GlycoMIRAI, a joint initiative with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). The ceremony, held at the Higashiyama Campus, brought together senior representatives from both countries, including CNRS leadership and university officials from Japan’s Tokai National Higher Education and Research System.

GlycoMIRAI focuses on glycoscience research, studying sugar chains on cell surfaces with applications in health, food security, and life sciences under the “One Health” framework. The lab is closely linked with Nagoya University’s Institute for Glyco-core Research and aims to strengthen scientific collaboration between France and Japan.

During the visit, discussions also highlighted expanding student mobility and research partnerships, building on existing agreements with French universities. The initiative reflects growing bilateral cooperation in advanced scientific research and international academic exchange.
