New ISSS Initiative at Seoul National University Enhances Services for Global Students and Scholars

Seoul National University (SNU) has launched the International Students and Scholars Services (ISSS) under its newly restructured Office of Global Affairs (OGA), marking a significant step toward strengthening support for its growing international community. Designed as a centralized hub, ISSS aims to streamline services for international students, faculty, and visiting researchers, addressing past challenges caused by decentralized support systems across colleges.
Previously, access to services varied depending on institutional affiliation, with visiting scholars often facing difficulties related to visas, residency, and administrative processes. ISSS now provides coordinated assistance, including visa guidance, settlement support, and access to campus facilities through services such as the S-card. Support begins even before arrival in Korea, ensuring a smoother transition for international members.
Although currently operating with a small team, ISSS plans to expand through digital upgrades, including a multilingual chatbot and improved website services. The initiative aligns with South Korea’s broader efforts, such as the K-STAR Visa program, to attract global talent.
Through ISSS and various community programs, SNU aims to build a more inclusive, connected, and globally competitive academic environment.
