Khalifa University Alumna Dr. Tuka Alhanai Joins United Nations’ Independent Panel on AI

Dr. Tuka Alhanai, an alumna of Khalifa University, has been appointed to the United Nations’ Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence. She was selected from a pool of over 2,600 nominations submitted from more than 140 countries, becoming one of 40 experts tasked with contributing to international discussions regarding AI governance.

The Role of the Independent International Scientific Panel
The Independent International Scientific Panel on AI, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2025, represents the first permanent global scientific body dedicated exclusively to artificial intelligence. In her role, Dr. Alhanai will assist in preparing the Panel’s annual report that evaluates the opportunities, risks, and impacts associated with AI technologies. The inaugural report is scheduled for presentation at the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance in July 2026 in Geneva.
