Reaccreditation of Nursing Department at Instituto Superior Cristal: Quality Assessment and Future Directions

Instituto Superior Cristal (ISC) recently completed a reaccreditation process for its Nursing Department within the Faculty of Health Sciences. The evaluation occurred on October 15 and 16, 2025, and was overseen by Prof. Dr. Agostinho dos Santos Gonçalves, the Executive President of the Cristal Foundation, along with Prof. Dr. Sebastião Pereira, the Magnificent Rector of ISC.
Evaluation Process
Conducted by the National Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation of Academic Institutions (ANAAA, I.P.), the assessment included a site visit to evaluate various campus facilities. The evaluation team consisted of both national and international experts, such as Prof. Dr. Vaidehi Ulaganathan from Malaysia, Dr. Raimundo dos Santos, and Prof. Dr. Lidia Gomes. The team examined critical resources, including laboratories, libraries, classrooms, and newer facilities utilized by students.
Objectives of the Assessment
The assessment’s primary objective was to ensure the quality of education provided by ISC and to confirm the operational licensing period of the ministry’s diploma, ensuring adherence to relevant educational standards. Throughout the evaluation, the team offered recommendations for improvement within the Nursing Department in several key areas identified as essential for future development.
Recognition and Stakeholder Involvement
In the aftermath of the evaluation, Prof. Gonçalves and Prof. Pereira acknowledged the evaluators and the ANAAA team for their dedication and effort during the reaccreditation process. The event also included participation from a variety of stakeholders, including faculty members, students, alumni, and representatives from ANAAA. This reaccreditation is expected to enhance ISC’s standing in delivering quality health education within the region.
