Chula’s Metaverse Lab-XR Revolutionizes Medical Education, Wins Innovation Award for VR Training

Chulalongkorn University’s Metaverse Lab-XR has received the Excellent Innovation Award for Outstanding Student Development from Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). This award recognizes the project titled “Metaverse Lab-XR: The World’s First Comprehensive VR Training for Medical Laboratory Profession.”
Project Overview
The initiative is spearheaded by Dr. Navaporn Worasilchai and Dr. Patchara Tanubamrungsuk of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. The aim is to enhance the skills of medical technologists through the use of virtual reality, which allows for the creation of an immersive training environment simulating real hospital laboratory operations. This approach promotes effective lab management and teamwork among medical personnel, integrating practical experiences with theoretical knowledge.
Award Ceremony Details
The award ceremony occurred on September 30, 2025, during an academic seminar titled “Student Development in the AI Era: Future Challenges,” which took place at the Centara Life Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre in Chaeng Watthana.
Impact of the Initiative
The Metaverse Lab-XR initiative is intended to bridge the gap between theoretical instruction and practical application, providing students with the opportunity to perform hands-on skill assessments in a realistic clinical environment.
