PUP Achieves Prestigious Philippine Quality Award Level 2 for Excellence in Management
The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) has been awarded Level 2 of the Philippine Quality Award (PQA), acknowledging its dedication to organizational excellence. The PQA represents the highest standard for organizational performance in the country and is based on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award framework from the United States. Institutions are evaluated across a four-tier structure, with Level 2 indicating a proficiency in quality management practices.
Recognition and Achievements
This recognition highlights PUP’s improvements in systematic processes that enhance its reputation within Philippine higher education. The university noted a significant increase in the number of students passing licensure examinations, with the number of top scorers increasing from three in 2021 to 28 in 2023. Additionally, the implementation of its One-Stop-Shop initiative has streamlined the student registration process, reducing the time required from 20 days to just one.
Quality Assurance Framework
PUP’s quality assurance framework, paired with effective governance measures, has resulted in a 99% budget utilization rate in 2023, further demonstrating its impact on society. The university is also focused on enhancing its workforce through structured training and performance management initiatives.
Future Goals
Looking forward, PUP aims to achieve Level 3 status, known as “Mastery in Quality Management.” The recent evaluation report from the PQA has identified areas for development, particularly in strengthening review cycles and enhancing data completeness and comparative analyses with peer institutions. PUP plans to align its long-term University Development Plan with short-term action strategies to ensure that all efforts support its overarching strategic goals.
