Career Seminar and Farewell Party for Ukrainian Students at University of Tsukuba

On March 3, 2025, a career seminar and farewell party for Ukrainian students was held at the Community Center of the Global Village on the Tsukuba Campus of the University of Tsukuba. This event marked the conclusion of a Special Program that began in 2022, aimed at supporting Ukrainian students in their educational pursuits while they were displaced from their home country. Throughout this program, 42 students participated as Exchange Students or Research Students, with 31 currently enrolled and eight having transitioned to graduate programs.

Career Seminar Highlights

The career seminar featured presentations from three specialists representing various organizations, including WELgee, a non-profit that assists refugees, and the Ibaraki Foreign Worker Support Center. The professionals provided insights into job-hunting support programs available through the Japanese government, as well as personalized career guidance. Attendees took part in individual job counseling sessions.

Farewell Party and Reflections

Following the seminar, a farewell party was organized as a final gathering for students before their departure from the university. The event included a slideshow that highlighted the students’ experiences over the past three years at the institution. Participants expressed gratitude for the support received from the university, reflecting on feelings of warm welcome upon their arrival in Japan and their intentions to apply the knowledge gained in future endeavors.

University staff conveyed their best wishes for the students’ futures and encouraged them to maintain connections with the Tsukuba campus as alumni, suggesting the possibility of future reunions.
