ASF Marks World Environment Day 2026 with Climate Action and Sustainability Initiatives

The Amrita School for Sustainable Futures (ASF), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, celebrated World Environment Day 2026 with a series of educational and interactive activities under the theme, “Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For Our Future.” The programme brought together 54 students and teachers from Amrita Vidyalayam, Puthiyakavu, alongside ASF faculty members, research scholars, and staff.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ravishankar, Principal of ASF, who emphasized the importance of nurturing environmental responsibility among young people. The chief guest, Er. Bincy B. S., Environmental Engineer at the Kerala State Pollution Control Board, spoke on environmental conservation, waste management, Green Protocol practices, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), encouraging students to become active advocates for climate awareness.
A special lecture by Dr. Amritesh AR highlighted the ecological importance of sacred groves in preserving biodiversity. The programme also featured the launch of the Sacred Grove Platform for Kerala, aimed at supporting awareness, conservation, and documentation efforts.
Students participated in hands-on group activities addressing key environmental concerns, including plastic pollution, water scarcity, urban flooding, and human-animal conflict. The celebration concluded with student presentations, prize distribution, and sapling giveaways, reinforcing the message of collective action and environmental stewardship for a sustainable future.
