Technology and Education: Key Drivers for Sustainable and Inclusive Development

At the recent International Conference on Economics, Business, Entrepreneurship, Management, and Accounting (ICEBEMA) held on October 24-25, 2025, at Dr. Soetomo University in Surabaya, Indonesia, a representative from British University Vietnam (BUV) addressed the intersection of technology, artificial intelligence, and education in driving sustainable and inclusive development. The conference gathered over 300 participants, including scholars, policymakers, and industry leaders.

The theme of the conference, “Driving Sustainable Transformation: Green Innovation, Digitalisation, and AI in the Future of Economics, Business, and Entrepreneurship,” facilitated discussions on strategies for fostering a sustainable and inclusive digital economy.
Keynote Presentation by Dr. Kumarashvari Subramaniam
Dr. Kumarashvari Subramaniam, a Discipline Lead in Business at BUV, delivered a keynote presentation titled “Empowering Street Vendors through Digital and AI Integration: Students as Catalysts for Sustainable Change.” This presentation focused on the potential of digital transformation and artificial intelligence to enhance social welfare, particularly through student-led initiatives aimed at assisting street vendors in stabilizing their income and gaining access to digital markets.
Alignment with Sustainable Development Goals
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with a specific emphasis on poverty reduction and the promotion of decent work conditions by formalizing informal economies and facilitating access to microcredit.
Importance of Experiential Learning
In her address, Dr. Kumarashvari emphasized the significance of experiential learning and collaborative policies, advocating for the development of environments that support ethical AI practices, improve data accessibility, and encourage technological innovation. She stated that digital transformation encompasses not only efficiency improvements but also the empowerment of communities and equitable participation in economic opportunities.
