UBD Signs MoU with OSCO Sdn Bhd: Strengthening Academia-Industry Collaboration for Sustainable Development

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with OSCO Sdn Bhd on October 16, 2025, aimed at strengthening the collaboration between academia and industry. This agreement, signed on the UBD campus, focuses on enhancing education, research, and innovation.
Signing Ceremony
The MoU was formalized by Dr. Hazri Haji Kifle, the Vice-Chancellor of UBD, and Jimmy Chan, the Project Manager of OSCO Sdn Bhd. The signing ceremony also included attendance from Associate Professor Dr. Jose Hernandez Santos, who serves as the Director of the Centre for Lifelong Learning at UBD, along with Siti Nurhakimah Haji Abdul Hamid, the Legal Officer of OSCO.

Collaborative Research
The agreement will facilitate joint projects, seminars, fieldwork, and publications centered around solar power technology, renewable energy systems, sustainable construction, and energy-efficient building design, utilizing UBD’s research capabilities and OSCO’s engineering strengths.
Industrial Engagement
The initiative will provide opportunities for UBD students and faculty to engage with OSCO through site visits, applied research, and project supervision, allowing participants to acquire practical experience in engineering and renewable energy applications.
Internships and Apprenticeships
UBD students will have the opportunity to undergo internships and industrial placements at OSCO’s project sites, gaining hands-on experience in civil, electrical, and solar systems installation.
Expanded Cooperation
The collaboration aims to extend into additional areas such as capacity building for Bruneians in solar and renewable energy technologies, the creation of micro-credential and professional certification programs, and initiatives that promote sustainable development practices within Brunei.
Partnership Goals
The partnership seeks to foster knowledge sharing, skills development, and impactful collaboration between UBD and OSCO. It aligns with Brunei Darussalam’s objectives to enhance human capital development and stimulate innovation in the renewable energy and sustainable construction sectors.
