180th Graduation Ceremony at Universitas Sriwijaya: 899 New Bachelors and 194 Honored Graduates

Sriwijaya University (UNSRI) recently conducted its 180th graduation ceremony, conferring degrees to 899 new graduates, of which 194 were recognized with honors. The event was held at the UNSRI Auditorium on the Indralaya campus on October 15, 2025.

Graduating Cohort Overview

The graduating cohort consisted of students from various faculties within the university. The Faculty of Economics saw 118 graduates, including 2 with honors. The Faculty of Law celebrated the graduation of 43 students, with 5 being honored. The Faculty of Engineering had a total of 124 graduates, 18 of whom received honors. Other faculties included the Faculty of Medicine with 84 graduates (2 honors), Faculty of Agriculture with 83 graduates (18 honors), and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education with 93 graduates (53 honors).

The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences had 155 graduates, with 45 obtaining honors. Additionally, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences reported 42 graduates, 9 of whom received honors; the Faculty of Computer Science, with 110 graduates, awarded honors to 29 students; the Faculty of Public Health had 42 graduates, 8 with honors; and 5 honors were awarded in the Postgraduate Program.

Chancellor’s Address

In his address, UNSRI Chancellor Prof. Dr. Taufiq Marwa extended congratulations to the parents and guardians of the graduates for their role in their educational journey. He commended the graduates on reaching this important milestone and highlighted the significance of education as a valuable asset for the future. Prof. Taufiq urged the alumni to uphold the university’s reputation by demonstrating integrity and ethical behavior, while also encouraging them to support one another in their future endeavors.

Acknowledgments

The Chancellor also acknowledged the contributions of UNSRI leaders and staff in creating a conducive educational environment that contributed to the timely graduation of students. He expressed gratitude to the sponsors who provided scholarships for underprivileged students, noting that eight scholarship recipients successfully completed their studies, including five from Bank Indonesia, one from Baznas, and two from the Karya Salemba Empat Foundation.

Key Messages from Regional Secretary

Dr. Drs. H. Edward Candra, M.H., the Regional Secretary of South Sumatra Province, represented Governor H. Herman Deru during the ceremony. He emphasized UNSRI’s role in developing skilled human resources in South Sumatra and encouraged graduates to view their academic degree as a foundation for lifelong learning and adaptability in an evolving world.

Dr. Candra concluded by imparting three key messages to the graduates: the importance of continuous learning, the need to create value beyond mere employment, and the necessity of maintaining the integrity and professionalism associated with their university. He also reiterated the South Sumatra Provincial Government’s commitment to enhancing collaborations with universities and the business sector, to promote inclusive education and regional advancement.
