Four Exceptional Students Receive Chancellor’s Scholar UBD Scholarships for Higher Education
Four students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) have received the Chancellor’s Scholar UBD scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic session, allowing them to pursue Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.
Award Presentation Ceremony
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, presented the scholarships to the recipients: Nurul Hazirah Haji Zainuddin, Nur Nawwarah Hairul Azmi, Awangku Ahmad Zawawi Pengiran Haji Asmali, and Ahmad Zakwan Haji Mohd Salleh. The award ceremony took place on September 30, 2025, in the Auditorium Hall of the Legislative Council Building, attended by notable figures including Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah Haji Mohd Salleh, Minister of Education, and Dr Hazri Haji Kifle, Vice-Chancellor of UBD, alongside other Ministry of Education officials.
Fields of Study
The scholarship recipients will study in diverse fields: Nurul Hazirah is set to pursue a PhD in Human Geography at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom; Awangku Ahmad Zawawi plans to undertake a PhD in History and Malay Studies at the National University of Singapore; Ahmad Zakwan will study for a PhD in Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne, Australia; and Nur Nawwarah aims for a Master of Research in Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at University College London.
Return and Contribution
Upon completion of their studies, the scholars are expected to return to UBD to contribute as educators, sharing their expertise with future students and enhancing the university’s academic environment.
