UMT Launches Three Innovative Programs for the 2025/2026 Academic Year

Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has announced the registration of 2,015 new students for the 2025/2026 academic session, which includes a diverse array of 36 programmes across seven faculties. Among the new enrollees, 15 are international students from countries such as the Maldives, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sudan, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, and Kenya, who will be pursuing undergraduate studies.

Efficient Registration Process

The registration process began at 8 a.m. and was reported to have proceeded efficiently. The Vice-Chancellor of UMT, Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim, stated that the university is prepared to support the incoming students with various facilities, including teaching and learning spaces, advanced laboratories, and cafeterias designed for student comfort.

New Programmes Introduced

For the current academic year, UMT has introduced three new programmes: the Bachelor of Renewable Energy Technology with Honours, the Bachelor of Electrical Technology (Energy and Power) with Honours, and the Bachelor of Applied Science (Maritime Technology) with Honours (Dual Degree). These programmes are intended to address the country’s needs and nurture expertise in the fields of renewable energy, electrical technology, and maritime studies.

Orientation Programme

To assist students in acclimating to campus life, UMT has organized an orientation programme titled *Minggu Jalinan Mesra*, which will take place from 28 September to 4 October 2025. The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the new students for selecting UMT and encouraged them to take full advantage of the opportunities available during their studies.

Student Experience

A new student enrolled in the Bachelor of Counselling with Honours programme remarked on the straightforward and welcoming nature of the registration process.

Additional Campus Information

Alongside its main campus in Kuala Nerus, UMT also manages a second campus located in Bukit Kor, Marang. This campus is set to begin lectures on 5 October 2025, catering to 332 students across three programmes within the Faculty of Food Science and Agrotechnology. Necessary facilities at this new campus have been completed and are ready for use.

Financial Assistance Programmes

UMT demonstrates its commitment to student welfare through an array of financial assistance programmes aimed at reducing financial burdens. Initiatives include the *Bingkas Kasih* Assistance, which offers a registration fee subsidy of RM200 per student; the *Zakat* Al Amin Assistance, providing RM500 in welfare aid per student; and the *Yayasan Perkasa Siswa KPT* Educational Assistance, which allocates RM1,000 in educational aid for selected cases. Additional support for essential needs such as dry food items and daily necessities is also accessible.
