Study Abroad Opportunities for HCMUTE Students in Taiwan: Scholarships and Programs

On September 16, 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) welcomed a delegation from National Formosa University (NFU) in Taiwan. The purpose of the visit was to introduce various scholarship programs and educational opportunities available to HCMUTE students.
Delegation Overview
The delegation included prominent members such as Prof. Ian Yang, Vice President of NFU, and Prof. Jo-Yu (Frank) Wang, Head of the International Relations Office. They provided an overview of scholarship options, training programs, and career prospects available in Taiwan.
Participants from HCMUTE
Representatives from HCMUTE included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chau Dinh Thanh, Vice President, alongside faculty members from disciplines such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Economics, Foreign Languages, Applied Sciences, International Education, and the Office of International Affairs.
Scholarship Programs Discussed
The NFU delegation detailed international scholarship programs, indicating that HCMUTE students could receive full tuition waivers and monthly living allowances ranging from 6,000 to 12,000 NTD, depending on their chosen field of study.
Key Training Programs
Several key training programs were also introduced by NFU, including:
- INTENSE Program: This master’s program in Smart Automation combines education with work experience, offering a tuition waiver for the first year and a monthly stipend of 10,000 NTD from partner companies.
- Formosa Talent Internship Program (FTIP): This program provides short-term internships at NFU’s advanced research centers.

About NFU
NFU currently enrolls over 12,000 students and offers 18 master’s programs and 3 doctoral programs with a focus on engineering and technology, especially in mechanical engineering, electronics, and aeronautics.
Student Engagement
After the presentations, HCMUTE students engaged with NFU representatives, asking questions about admission criteria, language proficiency requirements (IELTS score of 5.0 or higher or TOEIC score of 550 or above), scholarships, and potential career opportunities in Taiwan. NFU representatives provided detailed responses to enhance students’ understanding of international study options.
Future Collaboration Efforts
The collaboration aims to broaden educational opportunities for HCMUTE students while strengthening the partnership between HCMUTE and NFU. Discussions touched on collaborative areas such as training, scientific research, student and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives (particularly for drone applications in emergency rescues), and co-supervised theses.
Planned Activities
Future collaborative activities are planned to include:
- Faculty Exchange: NFU intends to send a professor to HCMUTE in October 2025 to conduct specialized seminars on semiconductor technology and automation and to assist with research groups and the development of HCMUTE’s Journal of Technical Education (JTE).
- Industry Collaboration: NFU aims to facilitate connections between HCMUTE and TSMC to support certificate courses and training programs in semiconductors and microchips.
