Curtin University Malaysia recently hosted an engaging event aimed at inspiring young minds in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This initiative drew nearly 700 students and provided a platform for learning and exploration.

Miri, Sarawak – On September 14, 2025, Curtin University Malaysia organized a STEM Carnival and SuCCESS Maths Workshop, attracting close to 700 students from SMK Subis. The event focused on promoting interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among young learners.
STEM Carnival Highlights
The STEM Carnival hosted over 600 students from Form One to Form Three, offering hands-on experiences that highlighted various engineering innovations. Exhibits included mechanical designs, civil structures, chemical experiments, software solutions, and electrical and electronic projects, showcasing a wide range of potential STEM career paths.
SuCESS Maths Workshop
The SuCCESS Maths Workshop engaged 65 Form Four students in problem-solving challenges through quizzes and interactive discussions aimed at enhancing their confidence in preparation for major examinations.
Opening Ceremony
The event was inaugurated by Lucy Suliman, the Principal of SMK Subis, and Lim Chuan Jet, Chairman of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Young Engineers Section, Miri Branch, in collaboration with faculty and staff from Curtin Malaysia.
Organizing Committee
Jameson Malang, a Teaching Fellow at Curtin Malaysia’s School of Pre-U and Continuing Education, served as the Organising Chairman. He recognized the commitment of student volunteers who contributed to the success of the carnival and encouraged participants to pursue education earnestly. He also emphasized the significance of community involvement from professionals and acknowledged support from Yayasan Sarawak, indicating plans to expand outreach initiatives to benefit additional rural students in the future.
