MMU President Discusses Digital Transformation at THE Digital Universities Asia 2025 Conference in Hong Kong

Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of Multimedia University (MMU), addressed attendees at the Times Higher Education (THE) Digital Universities Asia 2025 conference in Hong Kong, which took place from July 8 to July 10. The conference assembled over 350 leaders from various sectors, including higher education, industry, and policy, to deliberate on the social implications of digital transformation within universities across Asia. Key discussions focused on leveraging digital advancements to enhance community engagement and equip students with skills relevant to a technology-driven future.

Panel Discussion on Digital Upskilling

As part of the conference activities, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham participated in a panel discussion titled “Digital Upskilling for the Workforce: Closing the Skills Gap in the Global South.” This session addressed the pressing need for workforce upskilling and reskilling, with an emphasis on digital competencies such as artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and automation. He also presented MMU’s Research-led, Industry-driven University (RIU) initiative, which aims to establish robust partnerships with industry to ensure graduates are equipped with the skills necessary for the changing digital landscape.

MMU’s Initiatives in Digital Education

In response to emerging digital challenges, MMU has implemented several initiatives, including the creation of the Faculty of AI and Engineering (FAIE) and the introduction of industry-oriented programs focused on artificial intelligence. These developments underscore MMU’s dedication to being at the forefront of AI and digital technology education, which aligns with the main themes explored during the Digital Universities Asia 2025 conference.
