Chemistry Student from Raja Ali Haji Maritime University Wins Medal at MRCST 2025

Students from the Chemistry program at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH) received international recognition at The 2nd Multidisciplinary Regional Conference in Science and Technology (MRCST) 2025, which was held in June 2025 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Two students were awarded medals in the Innovative Competition category.

Award-Winning Projects

Putri Ramadhani earned a silver medal for her project titled “Smart IoT-Based VCO Machine With Real-time Process Control,” which utilized Internet of Things (IoT) technology to automate and manage the production process of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO). Rayva Gladis Putri Sulistyo achieved a bronze medal for her project “From Mangrove to Masterpieces: Natural Dyes for Sustainable Ecoprint Batik,” which investigated the potential of mangrove ecosystems as natural dyes for environmentally friendly batik production.

Conference Theme and Collaboration

The theme for MRCST 2025 was “Science and Technology as an Innovative Powerhouse Towards the Future,” and the conference included participation from universities across Southeast Asia. UMRAH co-organized the event with Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), and Universitas Syiah Kuala, indicating a commitment to regional scientific collaboration.

Project Presentations

UMRAH presented four projects at the conference, which included two oral presentations and two entries for the innovation competition. These participations and accomplishments are representative of the academic quality and innovative capabilities of UMRAH students.

The Rector of UMRAH, Prof. Dr. Agung Dhamar Syakti, highlighted the significance of the students’ achievements, stating that they reflect the university’s contribution to developing young, innovative leaders. He noted that this success underscores UMRAH’s role in advancing research and technology, particularly through a maritime and environmental lens.
