UTB’s Sand Retention Innovation Lab (SRI) in Jakarta: Advancing Oil and Gas Solutions

The Sand Retention Innovation Lab (SRI Lab) at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) participated in the 49th Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) Convention and Exhibition, held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from May 20 to 22, 2025. The lab’s team included Amila Fashihah Haji Abu Bakar, Laboratory Research Assistant; Dk Khairunnisa Pg Irwan, Lab Manager; and Abd Adri Wardi, Simulation Engineer. They presented their research on sand retention technologies and engaged with industry experts, researchers, and key stakeholders during the event. This convention served as an international platform for showcasing advancements in the field and fostering networking opportunities across the Asia-Pacific region.
SRI Lab Overview
The SRI Lab was established in 2020 with sponsorship from Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) and works in collaboration with Imperial College London and the University of New South Wales, Sydney. The lab is dedicated to enhancing sand retention testing, numerical simulations, and developing innovative solutions for the oil and gas industry.
