USM and JMA Launch STREAM + BAKAU LAB Program for Engaging Hands-On Science Learning
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and the Japan Malaysia Association (JMA) recently conducted a ‘STREAM + BAKAU LAB Showcase’ to promote hands-on science learning. The event took place on December 28, 2024, at SK Haji Omar Tahir primary school in Pengkalan Bujang, Kedah, and was attended by various officials, including Shinya Machida, the Consul-General of Japan in Penang, and key representatives from JMA and USM.
Interactive Learning Experience
The program involved 30 students from SK Haji Omar Tahir, focusing on interactive learning experiences related to mangrove ecosystems. The activities were designed to apply scientific knowledge in practical settings through an integrated educational framework that encompasses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STREAM).
Enhancing Real-World Learning
Held on December 15, 2024, the event aimed to enhance learning by connecting it to real-world scenarios while fostering creative thinking and innovation among students. This initiative also serves as a model for environmental education and the integration of STREAM subjects in Malaysian schools.
Motivating Educational Institutions
The initiative is expected to motivate other educational institutions in Malaysia to implement similar programs, thereby increasing accessibility to STREAM education for students from various backgrounds.
