Chung-Ang University Ranks 5th Nationwide in Research Funding Acquisition for Two Consecutive Years

Chung-Ang University has maintained its position as a prominent research institution in South Korea, ranking fifth nationwide in research funding among comprehensive universities for two consecutive years. This information is supported by the ‘2024 University Research Activity Status Analysis Report’ released by the National Research Foundation of Korea, which indicates that the university secured a total of 183.7 billion KRW (approximately 153 million USD) in research funding in 2023.

Significance of Research Funding

Research funding serves as a significant indicator of a university’s research capabilities and is essential for enhancing competitiveness in critical future industries, including artificial intelligence, next-generation semiconductors, bio-healthcare, and renewable energy. This ranking reflects Chung-Ang University’s dedication to increasing its research potential, particularly within advanced science and technology sectors.

Strategic Emphasis on Research Development

The university’s ability to secure substantial research funding consistently is attributed to its transformation into a research-focused institution and the emphasis on convergence research initiatives. Since President Park Sang-gue’s appointment in 2020, there has been a strategic emphasis on strengthening research capabilities and fostering an environment conducive to convergence research.

Participation in National Projects

In 2024, Chung-Ang University was chosen to participate in various large-scale national projects, such as the Innovation Convergence University Program aimed at advanced materials and nano convergence, the Metaverse Convergence Graduate School Support Project, and the University ICT Research Center Development Support Program. These projects have not only increased research funding but have also enhanced the university’s standing as a competitive research entity at the national level.

Future Infrastructure Developments

Furthermore, plans are in place to expand the university’s infrastructure to support future research initiatives. Notably, the ‘Natural and Engineering Research Cluster’ is set to begin construction in 2025 and is anticipated to serve as a center for advanced industrial research.

Commitment to Future Growth

Chung-Ang University continues to pursue growth in research funding and overall competitiveness, focusing on innovative research solutions that address national and societal needs while working toward becoming a globally recognized research-oriented institution. President Park Sang-gue has highlighted the importance of a convergence research environment and the development of infrastructure in fostering the university’s advancement in future industries.
