Southampton Expands Global Reach: Three New Branch Campuses Set to Open by 2030
The University of Southampton has announced plans to establish three new branch campuses by 2030, expanding its global presence to a total of five countries. The first branch campus will be located in India, while the exact locations for the other two campuses have yet to be determined.
Expansion of Global Presence
This expansion follows the university’s existing campuses in Southampton and Malaysia and forms part of its international engagement strategy. According to Andrew Atherton, Vice President for International and Engagement, the establishment of these new campuses is a significant element of the university’s overall strategy.
Fostering a Global Perspective
Atherton noted that the initiative aims to foster a global perspective within the institution. The proposed campuses are expected to create a dynamic and diverse academic environment, enabling staff and students to interact across different locations. This initiative is designed to promote a culture that values diverse viewpoints, thereby enriching both research and learning experiences.
Campus in India
Earlier this year, the university revealed plans for the campus in India, which will be situated at the International Tech Park in Gurgaon, Haryana. The first cohort of students is anticipated to begin their studies in August 2025. These developments signal the University of Southampton’s commitment to cultivating graduates who are equipped to navigate multicultural and multilingual professional landscapes.
