Chulalongkorn University Lecturer Receives 2024 Creative Excellence Award for Innovative Elderly Decorative Toys
Associate Professor Pornthep Lerttevasiri from Chulalongkorn University has been awarded the Creative Excellence Award 2024 for his project “Decorative Toys for the Elderly.” This award highlights initiatives that create a positive social impact, particularly in enhancing the quality of life for senior citizens.
Award Ceremony
The award ceremony took place on October 29 at the Capella Hotel in Bangkok, organized by the Creative Economy Agency of the Prime Minister’s Office. The project developed by Professor Lerttevasiri centers on designing toys tailored to meet the cognitive, physical, and social needs of elderly individuals.
Project Overview
“Decorative Toys for the Elderly” is based on thorough research into the challenges faced by aging populations, especially the deterioration of cognitive and physical abilities. The design process incorporates Bloom’s Taxonomy to promote emotional, cognitive, and physical development in a respectful manner.
Innovative Designs
Among the various designs produced through this initiative are:
- Thai Counting – A user-friendly tool aimed at reinforcing basic arithmetic skills with both Thai and Arabic numeral formats.
- Decorative Mandala – Art-focused toys and decorations featuring Mandala patterns, intended to enhance relaxation and aesthetic appreciation.
- Blocks & Picture Frame – A versatile collection that includes geometric shapes, promoting the improvement of motor skills and cognitive functions through creative play.
