UNAIR and Western Sydney University Strengthen Collaboration Through Strategic Meeting
On November 5, 2024, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) held a meeting with Western Sydney University (WSU) focused on strengthening academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.

The meeting occurred in the Kahuripan Room 301, located within UNAIR’s MERR-C Campus Management Office. It was attended by senior leadership from both universities. UNAIR’s delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Community Development, accompanied by various deans and Dr. Dina Septiani, the Deputy Director of Airlangga Global Engagement.
WSU’s representatives included Pro-Vice Chancellor and Provost Prof. Amir Mahmood, Pro-Vice Chancellor International Prof. Linda Taylor, and Augviera Bong, Chief Operations Officer of WSU Indonesia, along with their teams.
Commitment to Community Development
During the discussions, Prof. Puspaningsih highlighted UNAIR’s commitment to international community development through the World University Association of Community Development (WUACD) initiative, which currently includes three other Australian universities. She extended an invitation for WSU to join this program, which aims to expand networks and create meaningful experiences for students and institutions, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Positive Collaborative Outlook
Prof. Taylor affirmed WSU’s commitment to community engagement and expressed a positive outlook on the potential collaborative opportunities the WUACD initiative could offer. The meeting also addressed proposals for joint research programs, symposia, international conferences, and student mobility, along with discussions on the development of a joint doctoral degree.
Recognizing Ongoing Collaboration
Both institutions recognized the importance of their ongoing collaboration, with Prof. Mahmood noting that their relationship predates the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2023. He emphasized that collaborative efforts have significantly contributed to UNAIR’s rapid development.
