Curtin Malaysia CTF Hackathon 2024: Join the Exciting Cybersecurity Challenge with Bigger Opportunities

The Curtin Malaysia Capture The Flag (CTF) Hackathon 2024 is set to occur from October 12 to October 13, featuring a comprehensive 24-hour online competition designed for cybersecurity enthusiasts throughout Malaysia. Organized by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Curtin Malaysia in partnership with the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), this year’s event aims to present more challenging tasks than those encountered in the inaugural competition held last year.

Event Details

Referred to as Hackathon 2.0, the event will begin at 10 a.m. on October 12, inviting participants to tackle an array of cybersecurity challenges that cover areas such as web security, reverse engineering, open-source intelligence (OSINT), forensics, cryptography, among others. A total of RM 7,500 in cash prizes will be awarded, with only the top 10 teams qualifying for the leaderboard. The top three teams will also have the opportunity to present their strategies at the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS 2024) on October 17 in Kuching.

Pre-Workshop Sessions

Prior to the hackathon, participants will have access to pre-workshop sessions led by industry professionals, which will focus on essential cybersecurity topics including web security and forensics. These preparatory sessions are intended to equip participants with the necessary skills to effectively meet the upcoming challenges.

Organizing Team

The hackathon is being overseen by a team of faculty coordinators, including Dr. Sivaraman Eswaran, Terence Tan, and Foad Motalebi. Co-organizers Nur Hartini Mardan from SDEC and Janahtul Farha Mehboob Khan have emphasized the aim of enhancing the standards of cybersecurity competitions in Malaysia.

Cybersecurity Education at Curtin Malaysia

In addition to the hackathon, Curtin Malaysia also emphasizes its dedication to cybersecurity education through its Bachelor of Computing in Cyber Security program, which prepares graduates for careers in the information and communications technology sector with a focus on cybersecurity.
