UNAIR NEWS – Chairman of Universitas Airlangga Board of Trustees (MWA) Prof. Hatta Ali appointed Prof. Mohammad Nasih as UNAIR Rector for the 2020-2025 period. The inauguration was held on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Garuda Mukti Hall, UNAIR Management Office, Campus C.

After going through the selection process since January 2020, Prof. Moh Nasih was re-elected as UNAIR Rector. The inauguration was attended by some important figures and internal guests, while still applying the existing health protocols. This rector election is in MURI Indonesia’s record as the first rector election conducted online.

UNAIR Rector was elected based on online UNAIR Board of Trustees Plenary Meeting taking place on March 31, 2020. The first rector election conducted online was presided by Chairman of Board of Trustees M. Hatta Ali who is also served as Chief of the Supreme Court (MA) in Jakarta.

“The selection and selection process was not only accountable, as it was done to achieve consensus by the Board of Trustees. In this regard, we are sure UNAIR will be able to advance even more as a respected, world-recognized university, while still upholding the value of Excellence with Morality, “said Prof. Hatta Ali.

In the inauguration, Prof. Hatta Ali also expressed his highest appreciation to all health workers at Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA) and Special Hospital for Infectious Disease (RSKI), including doctors, residents, administrative staff, volunteers, and UNAIR researchers are in the frontline to handle and treat Covid-19 patients.

He also expressed his condolences for the passing RSUA doctor, Miftah Sarengat, during his service fighting Covid-19. “At the same time, we should be proud of UNAIR’s real contribution in finding combination of drugs for Covid by Purwati,” explained Prof. Hatta Ali.

Meanwhile, UNAIR Rector Prof. Moh Nasih emphasized that the process of selection of UNAIR Rector by consensus has been for three periods. According to him, the achievement of consensus is a good climate to support activities in higher education institutions.

“The consensus habits are very good and supportive to the process of activity in higher education. Because with the consensus, of course there are no more boxes and barriers, “said the Rector.

“This consensus model is a very good model for us to continue, especially at the higher education level which should be kept away from aspects that are political in nature,” he added.

Some important figures attending the inauguration include the Chairman of Board of Trustees Prof. Hatta Ali, Chairman of Academic Senate Prof. Djoko Santoso, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Indonesian Culture Prof. Muhajir Effendy, Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini, and some internal guests.
