Dr. Ian Evangelista Emphasizes Student Outcomes as the True Measure of Internationalization

During the AppliedHE Xchange @ FCPC, Dr. Ian Evangelista, OIC of the Office of the Deputy Executive Director IV and Concurrent Chief of Staff to the CHED Chairperson, highlighted the importance of viewing internationalization not merely as institutional prestige, but as a strategy that directly benefits students and strengthens graduate readiness.
In his message, Dr. Evangelista described the gathering as an important platform where institutions are encouraged not only to discuss internationalization, but to reflect on a more significant question — how internationalization improves student outcomes.
He emphasized that in today’s era of hyperconnectivity, universities and colleges are often measured by their global reach. Internationalization has become associated with international partnerships, institutional visibility, and global recognition. However, he challenged institutions to look beyond symbolic representations and approach internationalization from a more practical and transformative perspective.
According to Dr. Evangelista, the true value of internationalization lies not only in how globally connected an institution is, but in how effectively it prepares graduates for the demands of an evolving and interconnected world.
“At the end of the day, the question is not only how global our institution is. The question is also how ready are our graduates because of it,” he emphasized.
His message reinforced the growing need for higher education institutions to ensure that internationalization initiatives translate into meaningful learning experiences, stronger competencies, and improved opportunities for students.
