UNP Enhances Teacher Education Internationalization with CHED Capacity-Building Initiative

Four faculty members from the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) recently participated in a Capacity-Building program aimed at enhancing the internationalization of the Teacher Education Curriculum. The program took place on October 23, 2025, at the Golden Lion Hotel in Lingayen, Pangasinan. It was organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office I, in partnership with Pangasinan State University (PSU).

The UNP delegation included key academic figures, such as Dr. Luzviminda Relon, Director for Instruction and Faculty Development; Dr. Ma. Teresa Susan Manzano, Dean of the College of Teacher Education; Dr. Winnie Caliboso, Coordinator for Student and Personnel Mobility; and Dr. Ma. Theresa Fornes, Program Head of the Bachelor of Secondary Education.
Objectives of the Program
The main objective of the program was to enhance the global competitiveness of Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) in Region I. This was to be achieved by aligning curricula with international standards and strengthening the professional capabilities of faculty and academic leaders. A significant emphasis was placed on integrating global perspectives into teacher education programs to better prepare future educators for the challenges of an increasingly interconnected world.
Workshops and Presentations
The program included intensive workshops and presentations delivered by experts from various higher education institutions. Dr. Stephenie Busbus from Saint Louis University discussed frameworks and models of curriculum internationalization. Additionally, Dr. Ryan Jayson Delos Reyes from Urdaneta City University focused on the integration of global competencies and intercultural learning outcomes using technology. Several sessions featured presentations on effective practices in the internationalization of teacher education and strategies for curriculum development.
Curriculum Mapping Workshop
A Curriculum Mapping Workshop, facilitated by Dr. Cristeta Dulos from PSU–Lingayen, allowed participants to collaboratively strategize future actions. This was followed by action planning sessions aimed at fostering collaboration among the institutions involved. In closing remarks, Dr. Danilo Bose, Chief Education Program Specialist of CHED Regional Office I, acknowledged the participants for their productive engagement and dedication to internationalization initiatives. UNP notably received recognition for its involvement in this capacity-building effort within Region I.
