UNP Concludes 2025 Management Review: A Commitment to Continuous Improvement and Institutional Growth

The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) recently completed its comprehensive Management Review, which occurred from September 29 to October 3, 2025. This review engaged 72 units, colleges, process owners, and internal quality auditors, adhering to the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) principles. The annual review aims to assess institutional performance, audit outcomes, and promote a culture of continuous improvement throughout the university.
Opening Remarks
During the review’s opening, Dr. Rolando B. Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, stated that the review’s intent is to scrutinize processes and identify potential areas for enhancement rather than to highlight faults. He described the review as a constructive platform for collaboratively addressing challenges and leveraging strengths. This perspective was shared by University President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, who noted that the Management Review plays a vital role in fostering an environment of ongoing improvement, teamwork, and innovation that ultimately benefits students, faculty, and stakeholders.
Collaboration Emphasized
Collaboration between process owners and internal quality auditors was emphasized during the review sessions, with auditors presenting findings and insights from the recent Internal Quality Audit (IQA).
Topics Covered in the Management Review
The Management Review covered several critical topics, including the results of the Internal Quality Audit, performance indicator monitoring, assessments of risks and opportunities, feedback from customers and stakeholders, resource management, and the development of improvement plans. This led to a thorough examination of conformities, nonconformities, and enhancement opportunities, alongside evaluations of the adequacy and effectiveness of human, financial, and physical resources. Additionally, corrective and preventive actions were aligned with the university’s long-term strategies, particularly regarding preparations for upcoming AACCUP accreditation, PQA/ISA readiness, and internationalization efforts.
Actionable Points and Directives
Following the five-day review, several actionable points and directives were identified. These include enhancing monitoring systems to ensure compliance with QMS standards, implementing timely corrective measures for nonconformities, improving professional development initiatives for faculty and staff, upgrading facilities and resources to better support instruction and services, and institutionalizing stakeholder feedback mechanisms to increase responsiveness.
Conclusion
The 2025 Management Review highlighted UNP’s dedication to quality assurance and continuous growth. By facilitating collaboration between process owners and auditors, the institution ensured that operational and evaluative perspectives informed decision-making. The insights and strategies emerging from this process are anticipated to serve as a roadmap for innovation, compliance, and global competitiveness, demonstrating that all members of the university community participate in achieving shared goals.
