College of Engineering and Technology at Tra Vinh University: Preparing Practical Engineers for the Digital Era
The College of Engineering and Technology (CET) at Tra Vinh University has been established to address the demands of the evolving technological landscape in higher education. This initiative is aimed at creating a multidisciplinary training ecosystem in the Mekong Delta region.
Strategic Development
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa, the Rector of Tra Vinh University, the establishment of CET is a strategic development intended to transform the university into a leading institution for applied training that aligns with local and international labor market needs.
Training Philosophy
CET emphasizes a training philosophy that includes elements of “Practical Learning – Practical Training – Real Industry – Adaptation – Innovation.” This approach is designed to equip students with both professional knowledge and practical skills, enhancing their capacity for innovative thinking and adaptability in response to digital transformation.
Academic Programs
Currently, CET offers a range of academic programs, including ten undergraduate offerings, three master’s programs, and one doctoral program. Starting in 2025, the college plans to introduce new programs in Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Control and Automation Engineering Technology with a focus on Semiconductor Circuit Design, and Information Technology with integrated English training. In 2026, CET is also planning to launch an Agricultural Technology program. As of now, the enrollment stands at 2,163 students.
Financial Support for Students
Students enrolled in engineering and technology programs at CET have access to various financial support options designed to mitigate tuition costs for programs that contribute to local economic development. Female students pursuing degrees in fields such as Transportation Construction Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology are eligible for significant scholarships that may cover substantial portions of their tuition.
Scholarships for the Academic Year 2025
For the academic year 2025, Tra Vinh University will offer full first-year tuition scholarships across multiple programs, alongside additional scholarships targeting academically outstanding and underprivileged students. This initiative is aimed at fostering scientific research, innovation, and entrepreneurship among the student population.
Graduate Employment Success
Graduates from CET report a high employment rate of nearly 90%. Specific disciplines demonstrate even higher job placement rates, with Automotive Engineering Technology nearing 100%, while Construction Engineering and Information Technology yield rates of approximately 91.17% and 82.81%, respectively. The success in employment outcomes is attributed to established partnerships with over 30 enterprises for training and recruitment purposes.
Co-op Training Model
A notable component of CET’s educational approach is the Co-op training model, which enables students to gain professional experience while pursuing their studies. Students engage in 48-week internships divided into two periods during their third and fourth years, facilitating exposure to workplace culture.
Commitment to Research and Collaboration
CET is also committed to promoting scientific research and international collaboration. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the college plans to implement various research projects involving both students and faculty, with intentions to publish multiple papers in international journals.
Quality Standards and Accreditation
The college has achieved significant educational quality standards, including ABET accreditation for its Information Technology program, with several other programs currently seeking similar certifications. This underscores CET’s commitment to maintaining high educational benchmarks.
