RWTH Aachen University Delegation Visits Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST)
A delegation from RWTH Aachen University in Germany visited Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on April 3. The delegation, led by Rector Rüdiger and Vice-Rector Habel, was welcomed by HUST President You Zheng. The visit included participation in the “HUST-RWTH Aachen Partnership Day,” which featured attendance from HUST Vice President Zhan Yiqing and representatives from various faculties.
Significant Strategic Partnership
During a plenary session, President You recognized RWTH Aachen as a significant strategic partner for HUST in Germany, emphasizing the ongoing collaboration in fields such as mechanical engineering, optoelectronics, and medicine. The universities have established a Smart Manufacturing Talent Program aimed at developing future engineering leaders. President You expressed aspirations for further collaboration to strengthen Sino-German educational partnerships and support industrialization processes in both countries.

Rector Rüdiger remarked on the visit as his first experience at HUST and acknowledged the university’s tranquil campus. He highlighted the partnership that initially began in 2012 and further developed into a strategic alliance in 2022. The rector focused on RWTH Aachen’s interdisciplinary emphasis on sustainability, artificial intelligence, and medical technology, signifying a keen interest in expanding collaborative efforts.

Discussions were held among representatives of both universities regarding potential partnerships in mechanical and civil engineering, architecture and urban planning, life sciences, clinical medicine, and international cooperation.
Memorandum of Understanding
An Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by President You and Rector Rüdiger to strengthen collaboration in mechanical engineering and to inaugurate the “HUST-RWTH Aachen Joint Center for Engineering Education and Innovation.” This agreement reflects the commitment of both institutions to promote educational excellence and innovative approaches in engineering disciplines.
Technological Innovations Tour
The delegation conducted a tour of the Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center, praising the center’s technological innovations. At the National Experimental Teaching and Demonstration Center of Mechanical Engineering, Rector Rüdiger engaged with faculty and students, stressing the potential for enhanced collaboration.
Exploring Medical Collaboration
Additionally, Vice-Rector Habel’s team visited Tongji Hospital at Tongji Medical College to investigate potential collaborative opportunities in the fields of neuroscience and biomedical imaging.
Engagement with HUST Faculty
Faculty members from RWTH Aachen also participated in tours and working sessions at HUST’s Schools of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering, Architecture and Urban Planning, and Life Science and Technology.
