Malaysian Students Visit Southeast Asia’s Only Fire Simulator at IPB University

Several students from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recently visited IPB University as part of the Amali Bersepadu and Kem Perhutanan activities. This initiative is designed to enhance academic collaboration between UPM and IPB University.
Introduction to Research Facilities
During the visit, UPM students were introduced to advanced research facilities at IPB University, including various laboratories within the Faculty of Forestry (Fahutan). Notable among these facilities are the Geographic Information System (GIS) Laboratory, which focuses on spatial mapping analysis, and the Termite Laboratory.
Fire Simulator Tour
A highlight of the visit was the tour of the Fire Simulator, recognized as the only facility of its kind in Southeast Asia. This simulator provides training for forest firefighting teams in preparation for frequent forest fires.
Insights from Faculty
Prof. Noor Farikhah Haneda, Vice Dean of Fahutan IPB University for Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni, stated that the Fire Simulator is a critical tool for enhancing firefighter training effectiveness. The Termite Laboratory offers in-depth insights into termite biology and management.
Impact on Students
This collaboration allows UPM students to gain exposure to cutting-edge technology at IPB University, thereby enriching their academic and practical experiences in forestry science. It is viewed as an opportunity for students to expand their scientific networks and share knowledge.
Significance of Inter-University Collaboration
The initiative highlights the significance of inter-university collaboration in enhancing students’ educational experiences. Engagement with advanced research facilities prepares students to address future challenges in forest management effectively.
Future Collaborations
Future collaborations between IPB University and UPM are expected to further strengthen their partnership, thereby benefiting the education of future professionals in sustainable natural resource management.
