Chula Zero Waste Barter System Fair #2: Share and Exchange Unused Items
Chulalongkorn University recently organized the second Barter System Fair, titled “Swap & Share Market #2,” on January 11, 2025. The event, held at the university’s Centenary Park, focused on promoting responsible consumption in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 12. This initiative aims to encourage sustainable patterns of production and consumption within the university community.
Collaboration and Participation
The fair was a collaborative effort involving several university offices, including the Office of Physical Resources Management and the Property Management Office. Participants were invited to exchange unused but well-maintained items, which not only revitalized these items but also encouraged discussions about fostering a culture of resource-sharing among students through a segment known as “CU Barter Talk.”
Institutional Commitment to Sustainability
Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, noted the institution’s dedication to sustainability across various sectors, including education, research, and environmental conservation. He remarked that the fair exemplifies the university’s commitment to contributing to a sustainable society, an essential aspect of its vision as a world-class institution focused on comprehensive student development.
Events and Activities
Alongside the item exchanges, the fair featured exhibitions designed to raise awareness about responsible consumption. Musical performances by Chulalongkorn students also contributed to the event’s atmosphere. The fair was positioned as a proactive response to environmental challenges and as part of a cultural shift towards sharing and waste reduction in the university community.
